The works involved upgrade of the existing Pialligo Brook culvert crossing Beltana Road in Pialligo, ACT. Various in ground services required relocation from the culvert location including gas, water, fibre, communications and sewer. The works included demolition of existing infrastructure and excavation followed by construction of culvert base slab, reinforced concrete box culverts and cast-in-situ headwalls. The works also included the construction of Gabion retaining walls, gabion mattresses, guardrail road pavements and waterway landscape restoration.
Installation of the box culverts was a particularly technical element of the project, due to the density of in-ground and overhead services, crane lifting operations had to be closely managed to ensure the operation was undertaken safely. The project required management of a variety of risks including; waterway contamination, deep excavations, live traffic, cranage of large precast elements, existing live services and embankment stability.
