Project Overview

Bridge 1301 is situated on Gungahlin Drive over Barton Highway. The works involved pavement resurfacing for 115m of the 16.2m wide carriageway and the replacement of the existing expansion joints. Works were undertaken during a weekend closure in order to minimise impact on traffic. Modification of traffic signals was required for the Barton highway underpass, to aid traffic flow and avoid large detours.

VMS message boards were implemented as part of the TTM plan. The project required careful consideration of risks including working adjacent to live traffic, worker fatigue and chemical storage and handling. The works were performed to an exceptional standard, resulting in correction of the existing surface levels and smooth transition to the existing pavement. The project was initially programmed over 3 consecutive weekend closures. Complex was able to complete the works in just 42 hours through exceptional project management and management and coordination of subcontractors. The works were completed without any safety, environmental or quality non-conformances, and minor disruption to road users.
